Western Red Cedar Fencing:

Western red cedar is gathering international attention as the “worry free” fencing material.  Long known throughout its range as a virtually pest free and extremely durable building material, it has been used for thousands of years by the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest and Canada.

The Secret is the Tanin-

Western Red Cedar has a natural preservation in every fiber.  This naturally occurring substance is called tanin.  It gives the wood its characteristic spicy smell when cut and insects and fungi don’t like tanin.  The tanin is what makes Western Red Cedar so durable.

Plain or Fancy-

Western Red Cedar can be left natural and will age to a rich silvery color.  It takes clear oils, stains, or paint equally well.  This gives you choices in color and texture not found in other fencing material.  Western Red Cedar cuts and machines well.

It Looks Natural Because It IS Natural.

Western Red Cedar fencing blends into the landscape.  Its pleasing and variation in color allows your fence to become part of your landscaping better than any other fence material.

Western Red Cedar Fence Installation:

Our installation crews take pride in their craftsmanship.  We have many referrals and repeat customers.  On privacy and picket fences, we set post approximately 3’ in the ground (8” diameter footing) and cement top 2/3’s so post do not rot prematurely.  Fences conform to the contour of the ground and posts.  Gates are custom fabricated at the job site, with heavy decorative hardware being used.  Good fences must be straight and clearing obstacles in the way is important.  We inspect the ground during bid quotation and modify the building of the fence if necessary.  All types of dirt, clay, sand, black dirt, peat, and gravel are taken into consideration.

We are a leader in the industry for customer satisfaction.  As a company we help you with choosing the correct fence for your needs.  We look at the environment, behavior, and physical characteristic in determining the best fence for you.  We help you with positioning the fence in the best location, for the best resale and use value.  These fences last many years, and we look into the future for your needs.

A fence is like a new roof and we want it to weather well and stand up well and never loose its design appeal.  When looking at the yard, the fence is the first detail within a picture, pleasant looking, strong, but not overwhelming.

Chain Link Fencing:

Commonly referred to as mesh or wire, Sterling Fence primarily sells 11ga And 9ga wire.  The gauge refers to the diameter of the fabric. The smaller the gauge (number) the heavier or stronger the mesh or wire is.  The wire also comes in varying diamond sizes.  The diamonds are the shape of the openings the more there will be adding to the strength of the line of fence. (Our 2” wire is of greater strength than the 2 ¼” and 2 ½” wire sold at big box stores).  The wire is a hot dip zinc galvanized for resistance to corrosion.  Available in 42”, 48”, 60” and 72” heights.

The 11ga wire is most often used and serves well for average requirements, average size dogs, use for children, boundaries, etc.

Framework: this refers to the posts and top rail that support and stretch the fabric.  Commonly end and corner posts are 2 ½”, line post are 1 5/8”, and toprail is 1 3/8”. Wall thickness of the post is .065 (16ga) and larger posts are available for heavier duty requirements.  The posts we use are triple coated for corrosion resistance.

Hardware:  All the miscellaneous, clamps, rail ends, caps, tie wires, tension bars, etc., are all galvanized for protection.

Chain Link Installation:

*All posts (including line post) are set in concrete approximately 24” deep and a hole that is 6” in diameter.

* Posts are spaced along the fence line not more than 10’ apart.

* The wire is stretched to proper tension for maximum strength.

* Setting of all posts is the first part of fence construction.  The post will set in the concrete for several days before the rest of the fence is assembled, the fabric stretched, and the job completed.

* Tip: Tension wire is to reduce the movement in the wire along the bottom of the fence between posts.  Usually for dogs that may push against wire at the bottom of the fence. Our salesperson can help you decide if you need this option.
